As Jared Kushner faces new levels of scrutiny over his connections to Russia, indications suggest that the adviser and son-in-law of President Trump is being told to keep a low public profile for now.
White House officials have told NBC that Kushner is being advised to “lay low” while the FBI is investigating his pertinence to their Russia investigations. This comes shortly after the reports that Kushner wanted to set up a secret communications line between the Trump Administration and the Russian government.
“A White House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told NBC News that at least one staffer was speechless when they learned about reports of a purported Russia back channel…That Kushner is being cautioned to keep a low profile is notable considering his role leading a new White House “war room” to deal with Russia-related issues.”
Kushner has drawn attention recently over his meetings with Russian officials, one of whom was described by U.S. intelligence as a “Putin crony.” Trump is standing by his son-in-law amid these events, saying in a statement to New York Times that he has “total confidence” in Kushner.
